Before this book I didn’t know that some of my decisions were not my own. I thought my thinking was clear and based on what is in front of me, with logic and my inane pragmatism. I thought that when I enter a coffee place or a canteen I choose what I want to eat or drink.

However, it might be that the setup of the place has decided it for me, in combination with my brain that is hard-wired for my survival. This cognitive bias book helped me realise that my brain sometimes works against my best interest. Above all, she just tries to keep me alive and in one piece.

Key takeaways:

  • I need to make a use of the decision-making checklist when facing non-emotional decision, like finance and the material future
  • my brain is here to help me survive, not to make me happy
  • knowing about the list of cognitive biases we all have, I understand where people come from with their opinions and strong feelings about certain things. It made me comprehend better why they make the decisions they do. Tt helps me to be more understanding of others
  • through engaging examples and anecdotes from the book, I gained a new level of self-awareness. Moreover, I better understand my own cognitive tendencies, which helps me grow and improve.
