During the Christmas break, whether you’re working or not, it’s a time for reflection and setting goals for the next year. All the good and ambitious ideas for your New Year’s glow-up should include a couple of thoughts that will improve your mental state. I wholeheartedly implore you to start this journey with self-love and positive self-talk. Let’s inspire ourselves with these quotes about self love and worth.
This is Going to be Your Year!
For us ambitious, single and dynamite women, this will be the year we harvest all the crops we’ve been sowing and nurturing in 2023. At our core is always the love we give ourselves and the self-perceived worth we project to the world.
I’ve gathered these quotes to guide you on a continuous self-love and worth journey because their importance it’s truly a life-changing realisation.
But before we get there, let’s consider why this is such a good time of the year for self-reflection, laying the foundation for what’s next in 2024.
The mood in which we enter the new year and the hopes (or fears) we have for the next year have a lot to do with how this year will turn out. When we set ourselves up for positivity, we become more aware of positive things around us, resulting in our brains focusing on the things we fixate on. The same will happen if we set our brains to see negative things – we will notice them more.
The Time of Self-reflection
Even though December is a busy time for many people, it’s also a period of shifting energy, new beginnings, winter solstice, and increased pressure to spend time with close ones (what can increase the sense of loneliness in some).
The end of the year is often considered a good time for self-reflection for several reasons, some of which may be associated with astrological phenomena. While astrology is not scientifically proven, we can explore psychological, cultural, and natural factors that contribute to the significance of the year-end reflection.
In many cultures, there are traditions, including festivities and holidays. These occasions often involve a sense of closure and new beginnings, prompting individuals to reflect on the past and plan for the future.
While astrological explanations lack scientific validation, some people find personal meaning in celestial events. I personally think that it’s a bit ignorant to assume that movement of such huge objects as stars and planets have no influence on our human bodies and minds, when it’s known that tides happen due to the Moon’s gravitational forces while around 60% of the human body is water as well. But that’s just my opinion.
The end of the year aligns with the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the shortest day and longest night. From a scientific standpoint, the changing amount of daylight can affect circadian rhythms and impact mood. This natural event may contribute to a reflective mindset.
How to Start End-of-Year Self-Reflections
It’s good to look back and analyse what we’ve learned the past year as well as set the intentions we want to enter the new year with. I’m a huge fan of journaling, so I encourage you to use these prompts. Keep it positive and truly feel what you’ve experienced. Be grateful for each experience as they contributed to the person you are today.
Even negative situations were lessons learned and something that enriches our wisdom and experience.
These are my favourite prompts for end-of-year reflections. Remember to really feel everything you’re writing:
- Lessons learned in the past year.
- My wins and achievements of the past year.
- Things I’m grateful for at this moment.
- What do I want my life to look like in a year from now?
- What are my priorities and core values?
- What new triggers have I identified in the past year?
