by Carol Dweck
A psychologist known for popularising the concept of the growth mindset through her research.
The New Psychology of Success explores how mindset impacts personal development and achievement. Dweck introduces two mindsets – the fixed mindset and the growth mindset – and discusses how adopting a growth mindset, believing that abilities can develop through dedication and hard work, can lead to greater success and fulfillment in life. Furthermore, the book emphasizes embracing challenges, learning from failures, and continuously striving for improvement to unlock one’s true potential.
It’s all about being open-minded to what happens to us and our surroundings. The challenges do not burden us but offer an opportunity to learn something new and emerge stronger. Each person has their own pace and should celebrate the progress made every day.
For me, embracing challenges as opportunities for personal growth has been a game changer. Following certain setbacks in life, I realised that I emerge from those situations much stronger, riding the wave of self-improvement through post-traumatic growth, and I value its effects, despite experiencing my own suffering. Subsequently, I actively seek to challenge myself and understand that failure, if it occurs, will ultimately make me stronger in the long run.
